MOLE: NOTES ON GOATS
There’s so much I could talk about this month, but I’m going to take a completely different tack instead. I want to start by talking about the GOAT, old Rossi himself. That’s my problem, see, the whole ‘Greatest Of All Time’ thing – it’s really starting to grate. It never used to, funny enough, but the more I think about it the more I believe it’s just not a pertinent title to his Goatness, or rather, his Gootness. Bear with me on this for a moment...
Before you open that laptop or tap away on your phone writing hate mail, death threats, or ask me whether I enjoy regular soapy threesomes with Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo, just take a pause and read what I have to say. The reason I don’t think it’s right (even if it’s wonderfully marketable), is I think it’s disrespectful to all the other greats who came before him. Those who were a product of their eras; the times they lived in, the bikes they rode, the tyres they rolled upon and the tracks they raced around. It’s almost impossible to compare riders from one distinct era to another, there are simply too many determining factors, which makes such comparisons utterly moot.
