We’ve all done it - bemoaned a birthday, yet another wrinkle, or more grey hair. Yet, as a doctor friend recently replied to me, when I did just that, ‘But we’re so much younger now than we’re going to be.’ It really stuck with me, as a reminder to appreciate what we have now (like looking back at teenage photos of yourself looking glowingly gorgeous and wishing you’d been aware of that then) and to prepare for what’s to come.
This issue’s theme, the idea that healthy has no age, is a personal one for me. I was fitter and healthier at 40 than I was at 20 (a midlife triathlete vs a pint-drinking student). And there’s no reason being strong, fit and healthy can’t continue into our 50s and beyond. In our deep-dive feature (page 18) we look at how to ensure our chances of doing just that are as high as possible. Empowering stuff.
