I must admit to never having considered Pentecost in that light. ‘There needs to be a rebirthing of our dreams’, Ron advises. A spiritual renewal, or revolution, does seem to be the only answer to resolving all the problems within the Church, and throughout the world. The most obvious definition of Pentecost is ‘influence of the Holy Spirit’, which is surely still alive, even in today’s troubled world; otherwise all Churches would be dead or dying.
I recently revisited the Church of Scotland after many, many years of absence, having looked into other religious organisations and branches of Christianity. For some reason, I felt prompted (by the Holy Spirit?), to return to ‘my’ Church. I felt quite excited at the prospect and was not disappointed. It felt like I had gone full circle and arrived safely back home – so the Church of Scotland must survive or I will become homeless – but I am sure this will not happen.
It would be interesting to hear Ron’s thoughts on that mostly ignored, beautifully written, book of the Bible – Song of Solomon. It might attract people who are looking for love in their lives – and who isn’t?
