The Power button is oddly located on the bottom of the Mac mini, in the back-left corner, but it’s not a major problem.
Inside the Mac mini, more magic awaits… and the mini now supports more external displays than before
With a design that makes it looks like a shrunken-down Mac Studio, the all-new Mac mini is a thing of wonder. Measuring just 12.7cm square, it’s not that much bigger than an Apple TV 4K (9.3cm square), yet is taller than before, standing at 5cm high. For comparison, the previous gen Mac mini measured 19.7cm square and was 3.58cm tall. That’s quite a difference.
Other changes are plentiful too – the Mac mini (2024) now has two handy USB-C ports on its front, along with a 3.5mm headphone jack, while on the rear there are three Thunderbolt 4 ports (three Thunderbolt 5 ports on models equipped with M4 Pro), one HDMI and a Gigabit Ethernet port (upgradeable to 10Gb Ethernet for an extra £100). While the previous Mac mini had a predominately plastic back, the Mac mini (2024) is all aluminium, which means you may need to be a bit more careful when slotting in metal-tipped USB-C and Thunderbolt cables than you were before.
