TWITCH LIVE
Performing 2007’s Colors in its entirety two nights in a row, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME treat an audience of 5,000 Twitch users to a voyage of fiendish ingenuity and dazzling skill from drummer “Blake’s Parents’ Basement” in North Carolina where the album was written. Not that you’d notice what a daunting undertaking it is from the relaxed demeanour of the performers, who eat strawberries during the hoedown of Ants Of The Sky, pull silly gurns at the handheld camera and show viewers pictures of their dogs. This laidback approach belies the complexity of the continuous 50-minute piece, with few repeating parts and countless dynamic shifts, which still sounds as lavish and groundbreaking 13 years on. What’s more, BTBAM perform it flawlessly with no breaks until the lightspeed fingering of Tommy Giles Rogers on White Walls sadly comes off the rails and seemingly breaks the stream in the final moments. It at least gives a chance for the band to replace broken drum stools, discuss their bum notes and flip water bottles, before the encore of Selkies: The Endless Obsession and a jovial Q&A to finish.
