The Isle of Skye is at ‘risk of being ruined by tourism’, according to a UK lifestyle magazine.
CountryLiving compiled a list of nine travel destinations around the world that are most at risk of being overrun by the booming global tourism industry, with Skye coming in at three on the list.
The article outlined that recent film and television appearances had led to an influx of tourism on the island which had brought about much of the issues with over-crowding on the island. They also quoted fiight comparison site Jet Cost, which said: ‘The increase in popularity has caused an overcrowding problem, with visitors turning up in motorised homes and other vehicles, blocking up the local roads. The problem became so severe that the local police had to get involved, telling visitors back in 2017 not to travel to the island unless they had somewhere to stay.
