Thefinal two rounds of the club championship took place in contrasting weather conditions: Iain Macalister started the day one shot ahead of John MacNab, however, this changed during the first nine with John taking a six-shot lead at the turn. Iain battled back and his one over par 34 saw the deficit reduce to three shots with 18 holes left. John’s 72 was the best gross score on the day, with Peter Mclean Jnr moving into third place when he recovered from a horror start to post a 76.
The handicap trophy was another tight afiair with Jimmy MacNab showing the youngsters how it is done with a superb net 64, taking a one shot lead over David Ronald and a two-shot lead over James Smyth.
The John Reid Quaich, which is played as part of the championship, was won by Duncan Johnstone on 134, edging out Iain Macalister by one shot. Despite the weather conditions, the members gathered in good spirits for thefinal round of the championship, a day that everyone looks forward to and with all competitions very close an interesting day’s play lay ahead.
