NEVIS Range chairman Ian Sykes says he is pleading with telecoms companies to sort out problems with phone and broadband links at the famous mountain resort outside Fort William, writes Mark Entwistle.
So serious is the problem, that earlier this year Nevis Range was on the brink of not being able to host a major UCI mountain biking world cup event until another communications firm stepped in with a temporary solution and equipment.
Mr Skyes told the Lochaber Times: ‘We have very poor communications links here and for about the last four years we have been trying to get BT to sort this out. We have got a fibre optic cable into Nevis Range now but there seems to be major issues with the equipment that connects this up to us. It just does not work well. BT has told us it knows there are problems but there seems to be some kind of dispute between BT and Openreach over whose job it is to fix it.’
