Well, it’s been a long wait to test the Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera, and we can safely say, it’s a camera worth waiting for. The Animal AF, in particular, is incredible as it enables you to automatically track animals in action, such as active birds, as demonstrated above by Canon pro Robert Marc Lehmann. Not to mention its 45-megapixel full-frame sensor and 8K movie capabilities. We also got our hands on the new more affordable 20Mp R6 and it matches the R5’s specs with its Animal AF, plus both cameras will blast in bursts at 20fps, and have In-Body Image Stabilization for sharp shots, even when you’re shooting handheld in low light with slow shutter speeds. Verdicts on these game-changing cameras on page 72.
We will also give you the confidence to make the step up to Manual mode this issue - it’s the holy grail of photography, and we’ll show you how to get to grips with this professional setting to improve your photos, from page 26. Also inside, we prove you can have a radically socially-distanced photo shoot, when our Apprentice took photos with our Canon pro and model Natasha J Bella, who was 200 miles away! It was possible using Canon EOS software and the Zoom video-conferencing app, see how it was all done and the great portrait photos and tips, on page 8.
