BIG BIG TRAIN
VENUE CADOGAN HALL, LONDON DATE 13/09/2023
After a singular career trajectory that saw only sporadic live performances over three decades, then was derailed by the pandemic and the tragic death of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist David Longdon, Big Big Train are regaining momentum, and this evening’s concert is the last night of a 17-date European tour. Bass guitarist and founder member Gregory Spawton wrote in his tour diary that the previous night’s show, at the same venue where they also played in 2017 with a different line-up, was an emotional experience.
There’s a celebratory feel tonight. Any band would love a fanbase as dedicated as Big Big Train’s and the mysterious, ancestral drama of Folklore, which opens the set, elicits a standing ovation.
