A few weeks ago, I had two friends come and stay with me unexpectedly. Their travel plans had changed at the last minute and they’d spent a stressful day trying to find somewhere for the night. When they arrived, they were exhausted, so I put them to bed and decided that the following morning, I’d make them a celebratory breakfast to cheer them up. I chopped fruit for an artistically laid out fruit salad, I popped to the shop to get fresh coffee and I set the table carefully, decorated with fresh flowers. I realised that, for the first time in quite a while, I’d made breakfast a true pleasure. And it made me wonder why I didn’t start my day like this more often.
