INTERVIEW RIN HAMBURGH PHOTOGRAPH GEMMA DAY
By the time I was in my early 20s, I had four children. Getting pregnant at 17 meant that I didn’t finish my A levels and it would have been easy for me to think that any kind of meaningful career was out of the question. I’ve always been someone with a vision and I wanted to make an impact. Being a full-time stay-at-home mum wasn’t what I wanted to do forever. Not long after my fourth son was born, I realised that I needed to exercise my brain again. I was doing voluntary work with organisations such as Women’s Aid and Meet A Mum, and got a part-time job too – but I knew that I wasn’t going to get far up any career ladder without a degree, so I decided to apply to university.
