The IMEX Terminal, Moorebank
By any standard, the Moorebank Logistics Precinct (aka the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal) is a huge project. The 243-hectare site, located on former Australian Army land at Moorebank in Sydney’s south-western suburbs, is equivalent in size to the Sydney CBD, and when completed, will be the largest intermodal logistics precinct in Australia. In early May, Bruce Belbin paid a visit to the IMEX Terminal within the complex and was suitably impressed.

Taking the Bellarine Express to Geelong
When engineering works or other reasons close railway lines temporarily in Victoria, it’s usual for buses or road coaches to replace passenger trains. However, on weekdays from 11 April until 3 May 2023, commuters from Geelong to Melbourne had the unusual, maybe even unique, option of a train replacement ferry. Malcolm Simister, best known for his observations of train performance, decided to apply his skills to a different mode of transport.

The locomotive hauled passenger car fleet
In this month’s Rolling Stock Feature, John Beckhaus takes a look at the history of loco-hauled passenger cars in Australia and gives a detailed account of the current state of play.

The Zig Zag Railway reopens
Following more than a decade of recovery and restoration work, the iconic Zig Zag Railway in the Blue Mountains of NSW returned to operation during May, as Chris Walters reports.

A new build Z class 4-4-0
The South Australian Railways Z class was a class of ten 1067mm gauge 4-4-0 steam locomotives that entered service from 1894. The last members of the class were condemned in October 1956, and none survive. However, in a workshop in Adelaide, Glenn Smythe has spent the past 20 years building a brand-new member of the long-extinct class.
