Reclaim  |  Issue 87
Not only is it a happy new year but also happy seventh birthday
to Reclaim. A lot has happened since 2016, and much of it in the last few months. This year has been a whirlwind: we’ve had a change in publisher, a new design, relaunched our website, introduced fresh sections and welcomed new columnists.
I’ve always believed in Reclaim, ever since I was first asked to be deputy editor in April 2016. And now Reclaim is more relevant
than ever, with living sustainably and buying consciously becoming so important. The word is perhaps overused, but authenticity has always been key to us, and isn’t that
what we all crave more of?
So in this January issue we aren’t predicting new trends or
telling you what’s in. I don’t warm to rules of taste and creativity. Home is a place for self expression and joy, not anxiety over whether you’re getting it ‘right’. Rather, I enjoy being inspired by others and adding my own spin, and in this issue ideas abound. I love Poppy Nightingale’s soulful home (page 26). It may be small, but it’s mighty! And Kate Pinnock’s former pub abode (page 38) is welcoming and full of heart.
Staying with the cosy vibe, we show you how to create your own winter retreat (page 50) that’s perfect for curling up on cold days. Traditionally this is a time for reflection, and personally I’m very aware of being in a position of privilege and safety when so
many aren’t. As we welcome a new year, let it bring hope and happiness to all, and may we strive to ensure that everyone’s home is a sanctuary.
