A responsible attitude and a need to recruit newcomers to the sport are the drivers behind Leander’s talent identification programme, now in its seventh year.
Although the world’s most successful rowing club continues to provide the lion’s share of athletes for the GB team, the club’s junior programme is now well established thanks to strong links with local state schools, as well as Henley College.
“We’ve identified untapped potential among many local schools which do not have their own rowing programme” said coach Livinia Cowell-Sherriff, who heads the Talent ID project at Leander.
