Scramble Magazine 415 - December 2013 Back Issue

Amongst our returning topics, this month's edition features specials about:

- CRUZEX Flight 2013
After fifteen months of preparations, the seventh edition of South America’s largest air power exercise kicked off at Natal and Recife Air Bases on 5 November 2013, with familiarization flights and a media day. Read our full report.

- Escuela de Aviación
After Israel and Egypt, Colombia is the biggest recipient of US foreign aid. Hence, it does not come as a surprise that most of the inventory of the Colombian National Police (Policía Nacional de Colombia, PNC) has been paid for with US dollars. Our editors visited the Colombian Police Aviation School at Mariquita.

- 20 Years of A340
On 15 March 1993, the first revenue flight with an A340 took place. Lufthansa took its new quad from Frankfurt to New York, making history for Airbus as the A340 was the first true long-haul plane designed by Airbus. On 10 November 2011 production of the A340 ended. In total the European manufacturer booked 377 orders. Time for a large overview of one of the classiest planes on the planet!

- Kamov Ka-50 & Ka-52
The Ka-50 lost out in the long drawn out competition against the Mi-28, and only a few were built.
Not a single one of them was operational by the summer of 2012. The future of the Ka-52 looks brighter as dozens are ordered for the Russian Army Aviation, and the naval version Ka-52M will serve on the “Mistral” class helicopter carriers. We have a rundown on all known airframes.
