Brazil’s Citrosuco, the world’s largest producer of orange juice concentrate, has placed the refrigerated juice carrier Golden Citrus into operation across the Atlantic following the 26,215gt vessel’s conversion from a geared handyside bulk carrier.
Completed in 2015 by China’s Yangfan Group, originally for Italy’s d’Amico, the 180m by 30m ship was extensively modified by Portugal’s Lisnave shipyard last year, when the height of the hatch coamings was increased and 16 stainless steel juice tanks, each weighing 150 tonnes and measuring 12m by 12m by 16.5m, were installed in the cargo holds, along with insulated piping.
