BRIDGE VISIT
A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE
George Holland talks to Captain Alan Robertson about his career and working on the cruise ferry Stena Britannica, which operates between Harwich and the Hook.
WHEN DID YOU START YOUR CAREER AT SEA?
I first went to sea in 1986 with a cargo company called Bank Line. I spent most of my time in the South Pacific on ships carrying copper, palm oil, coffee and cocoa to Europe, and taking machinery and containers down to the South Pacific Islands. I also did agency work on various ships, from supply boats for the rigs to container ships and cruise ships. I spent a year on Canberra, then worked for Fishers of Barrow-in-Furness.
