Progress for beleaguered Cal Mac

NEW FERRY

Isle of Islay is due enter service on the Islay-Kennacraig route in the autumn.

The new ferry Isle of Islay successfully completed a second set of sea trials in mid-July with staff from CMAL and Cal Mac on board. These focussed on the set-up and testing of the battery energy storage system (BESS), as well as the proving and optimisation of the power management system (PMS) and energy management system (EMS). The first of four ferries under contract with the Cemre Marin Endustri shipyard in Turkey, she will undergo further outfitting work ahead of delivery in Q3 of 2025.
