Pre covid, my inbox was full of amazing images of surfers on carefree surfs trips, surfing beautiful waves from Sri Lanka to Hawaii. Since travel restrictions, the surf trip photo tap has been turned down to a drip, rather than full flood. However, things have changed over the last 18 months, and it feels like the community of surfers has grown stronger during this time. Surfing has brought people together with a common bond.
Our mental health is connected to the ocean, and being a surfer is one way to restore inner harmony and the challenges that we have faced. With this in mind, in this issue we have included stories of empowering women who have helped other women to surf, been there, encouraged them and thrived. We talk to women who have faced their own challenges because they don’t conform to society norms. Hopefully, reading their words will encourage us all to look out for one another more. A global circle of helping hands.
