The first season of Westworld literally ended with a bang when the Wild West theme park’s robots started to rebel against their human creators and sprayed them with gunfire at a swanky corporate party. It was a moment of liberation at the futuristic resort where high paying guests had been able to treat the lifelike ‘host’ androids as they wanted, without fear of retaliation. However, a handful of hosts were able to achieve consciousness thanks to a masterplan by the park’s co-creator Dr Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins), who’d spent the last thirty years preparing them to fight back. Now, for the first time, they can kill humans a fact which delights the park’s owner, cold-blooded William, aka the Man in Black, who had been hoping to create a game where the hosts don’t always lose.
