For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by fish - from goldfish to neon tetras, clown loaches to mola molas, red-tailed black sharks to whale sharks and koi carp to mahi mahi - and I’ve been fortunate enough to dive in many wonderful places to interact with fish on their turf. I’ve had blue-stripe cleaner wrasse approach me at their cleaning stations to offer a free teeth clean, terrifying titan triggerfish warning me to back away from their nests and playful clownfish boxing the bubble stream of my breathing apparatus. Yet I’ve also had the misfortune of witnessing first-hand the destruction industrial fishing inflicts on our oceans, the blood baths and ensuing massive loss of biodiversity.
