David Jacobs hosts the first episode of Juke Box Jury on the BBC. Its concept was simple, an ever-changing panel of celebrity guests would rate and review the new 7" releases of the day – declaring them a ‘hit’ or a ‘miss’. The show was soon to have a considerable impact upon the charts and by 1962 was attracting a weekly audience of up to 12 million viewers. Jacobs would fire up his Rock-Ola Tempo II jukebox and the four-strong celebrity panel would pass judgement on up to nine singles per episode.
