ERrOR #13 Not allowing your body to rest enough
THE LESSON
Learning that if you push yourself too hard your body will break down, and you won’t be able to run
THE TEACHER
Scott Laidler, elite personal trainer
You’ve fallen in love with running and every day it’s all you can think about. You’ve been setting new PBs and believe that you are invincible. The thought of not running makes you feel anxious and tetchy. Sound familiar?
Rest and recovery is key to a successful running programme. However, it’s common to want to give a new regime your all and a day off can feel, at best, like lost ground and, at worst, like a punishment. Without adequate rest, though, performance will suffer and eventually a health decline will follow. When planning out a training regime, make sure that you give equal consideration to both your training and rest requirements.
