The culture wars continue apace in the US, with bestselling author Nora Roberts stepping in, along with more than 4,000 other donors, to keep a local library open, writes Gary Dalkin. The Patmos Library in Jamestown Township, Michigan, lost its local taxpayer funding in August by a vote of 37% to 62% following a campaign by members of the local community when staff refused to withdraw LGBTQ titles the campaigners objected to. Staff did make the title Gender Queer: A Memoir, by Maia Kobabe available by request only. Library director Amber McLain, and later interim director Matthew Lawrence resigned, saying they had been repeatedly harassed, as well as been accused of indoctrinating children.
