CILIP (The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals), the UK library and information association, has awarded its Honorary Fellowships for 2022 – the organisation’s highest recognition – to six people who have made an outstanding contribution to the library and information world. Among them is Bernardine Evaristo, whose novel Girl, Woman, Other, jointly won the Booker Prize in 2019 alongside Margaret Atwood’s The Testaments, making her the first Black woman to win the Booker. CILIP noted that, ‘Through her work, she has encouraged a new generation of readers to find themselves in literature and to go on to imagine a better, more inclusive and representative world.’ Evaristo was awarded an Honorary Fellowship ‘in recognition of outstanding contribution to literacy, reading and representation in literature’.
