According to recent research for Heart of House at argos, a third of UK renters are losing an average of £300 in deposit money by making changes to their home without seeking permission. With 45% of tenants feeling more settled in a rental property after having put their own stamp on it, many are tempted to make improvements without checking first.
Carolyn Uphill, Chairman of the national landlords association, has this advice: ‘i’d encourage all tenants to communicate with their landlord at the earliest opportunity to find out what they are or aren’t comfortable with. the vast majority of landlords are happy for tenants to make some changes to their property, as long as they ask permission first.’
