DEACON BLUE
SONY LEGACY
FELLOW HOODLUMS
★★★
Reissued on vinyl for its 30th anniversary, Deacon Blue’s third album isn’t generally as acclaimed as its predecessors, despite reaching No.2 in the UK. Twist And Shout (no, not that one) is a diversion into Cajun music that pays off, but it’s a rare bold moment on a record that mostly plays it safe. Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh’s vocal interplay is as charming as ever, especially on One Day I’ll Go Walking, but, aside from the title track’s gentle menace, there’s nothing as compelling as most of the band’s other albums.
