The first volume of Level 42’s boxset in April was a reminder of just how unlikely their success was. They could have become Britfunk also-rans, far more prog than the scene’s archetypes.
On initial albums, Level 42 appeared to have little interest in becoming a chart act and that boxset cut off at the politically charged True Colours.
