IAN PEEL‘S A TO Z of POP
LIS FOR... LOGO
A TRULY CLASSIC POP GROUP HAS TO HAVE A TRULY CLASSIC LOGO. BUT WHAT MAKES A GREAT LOGO, WHERE DO THEY COME FROM, AND WHICH HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME?
It’s possible the Thompson Twins could win the award for best logo hands down before we’re even off the starting blocks.
They’d played with the idea in their indie, squat-dwelling era with a suitably anarchic triangle with two Ts in the middle, one upside down, the other upright. It was designed by Tom Bailey – along with their label’s logo Dirty Discs – aprocess he looked back on very fondly when I interviewed him for Classic Pop in 2018.
