Following the success of Queen and Elton John’s biopics, could a movie about UB40 be on the cards? Ali Campbell, who fronts one incarnation of the reggae band, explains: “I’m talking to Bill Curbishley, who manages us – he made
Quadrophenia
and
Tommy
with The Who – so I’m always badgering him to be involved in getting a script done. Everyone says that we have to make a movie because a lot of what has happened [to us], you couldn’t make up, it beggar’s belief._Once somebody gets their teeth into the project it will happen.”
Meanwhile,
Classic Pop
sends its very best wishes to Ali’s brother Duncan, who was hospitalised at the beginning of August after suffering a stroke. Duncan took over singing duties in the original UB40 after Ali quit in 2008. A statement released by the group said: “While we can report that he is already up and about, we ask fans to respect Duncan and the family’s privacy as he works his way back to what we all hope will be a strong and speedy recovery. We look forward to seeing you all on the road next Spring.”
