SPIDERS/TIN PLANET
DEMON
★★★★ / ★★★
After 2019’s 6CD Anthology compiled the Liverpool Britpoppers’ first 18 years, a new tour sees their first two albums back on vinyl. Debut Spiders from 1996 is a madcap whirlwind where Mister Psycho and Lovechild Of The Queen matched its hits Female Of The Species and Neighbourhood for exuberance. Two years on, Tin Planet was less rounded. There were more signs of filler, but Cerys Matthews duet The Ballad Of Tom Jones and the suave Begin Again made up for patchy sketches where humour came at the expense of a good tune.
