Were you apprehensive about rejoining Maiden?
Yes and no. When the conversation first came up it was about me possibly coming back; they definitely wanted Bruce, but already had two guitarists. Steve [Harris] was the one who suggested using three guitarists. I’d love to have been a fly on the wall for that, as it’s really left-field. We ended up going to Portugal to write, and luckily it all worked out; I took The Wicker Man and – boom – we were off.
