Did you have any awareness of the arrival of Classic Rock in the autumn of 1998?
I knew about the first issue – I’ve probably still got it somewhere. And I was pleased to see it. Sounds went under, and I had got very, very tired of Melody Maker and NME having a monopoly. In competition with one another those two could be quite childish. But Classic Rock was grown up from the start.
