When I first started researching my family history several years ago, I discovered that many of my ancestors were mentioned in publications held by my local studies library. Sometime, I would uncover stories about their lives or find their names in various indexes.
Many of these publications are now online. And one of the best places to search them is Google Books, a free archive comprising millions of digitised books, magazines, newspapers and other historical records. It’s a treasure trove for genealogists, no matter how far you’ve progressed researching your tree.
