Question of the Fortnight
Why has Microsoft made it harder to fix your PC?
It’ll wipe your system restore points sooner than before
System Restore has long been Microsoft’s most useful safety net, letting you roll back Windows to a time before something (often an update) messed it up. Now it has quietly lowered and narrowed that net by reducing how long restore points last for – from 90 to 60 days – giving you less time to fix problems with your PC.
The change came with June’s Patch Tuesday update (www.snipca.com/55365), and affects only Windows 11 computers running build 24H2. Microsoft didn’t give a reason, but if asked it would probably claim it benefits users by freeing up drive space.
