KILOHEARTS SNAP HEAP
Fancy a bunch of great-sounding effects with their own host plugin? Then this month’s giveaway will be right up your street
Snap Heap (AU, VST, VST3, AAX) from Kilohearts is a fantastic multi-effects host plugin. It normally retails for $29 but this month the extremely kind team at Kilohearts are gifting it to Computer Music readers, and what a great gift!
When it comes to combining and connecting multiple effects, modern DAWs don’t always provide the tools we need. Sometimes a singlehost plugin framework is a better solution, and that’s where Snap Heap comes in. Designed as a modular host to support Kilohearts’ own proprietary Snapin effects plugins, Snap Heap allows you to create up to seven effects chains (lanes) complete with complex modulation of all parameters. It includes Kilohearts’ 32 free Snapin modules (which also work as regular plugins), but can also host any other Snapincompatible plugins such as Kilohearts’ Carve EQ, Slice EQ and Faturator. The 32 effects plugins include all of the usual suspects like delay, chorus, filter, phaser and flanger, but are joined by more unusual examples such as Haas, Reverser, Ladder Filter and Tape Stop.
The easy-to-use and resizable plugin interface includes drag and drop movement of loaded modules, macro control and of course modulation, and is supported by an excellent categorised preset library with over 200 presets. In this tutorial we’ll show you how to claim, download and install your free copy of Snap Heap. Then we’ll take a look at the plugin layout, its various features and how you use it, including the all-important modulation and macro features. The plugin has so many uses, it’s impossible to cover everything, but we’ll finish up with a look at some of the presets in action and a cool little Easter egg.
