Magical memories to treasure...
NOSTALGIA COMES IN many categories. One of the most obvious is music –we only need to hear the first few notes of asong on the radio to be right back at aparty in our teens or on asummer holiday when the song was no.1 (Life hasn’t been the same since the demise of Top of the Pops!). Less obvious, but maybe even more nostalgic are sweets. We may be giving our ages away here, but who else remembers the excitement of the ‘penny tray’? Most often found at newsagents and corner shops, this sectioned tray offered all sorts of sugary heaven at pocket money prices. We must have all bounced around on asugar high having consumed the contents of the pink and white striped paper bags that held our selection. Foam shrimps, cola bottles, sugar mice, liquorice catherine wheels – pleasures were indeed simple in those days, though it is a wonder we still have any teeth!
