“If I could get people to take the time to have a go at stitching these amazing pollinators, alongside a plant that they either help pollinate or that benefits from the insect within their environment, then I could maybe foster a respect for them.”
With her new book on pollinating insects and plants now out, we chatted to embroidery artist Victoria Matthewson about her skill in bringing mini beasts to life in stunning detail using needle and thread…
Hi Victoria! Can you share which events led you to discover stitching and embroidery?
My stitching journey started at 10 when I was at primary school where I learned cross stitch and created a sampler. I didn’t want to work in straight lines and squares, so I went to my local library and searched the cross stitch books to see what was possible. I decided that I wanted my sampler to depict a floral wreath with Celtic style border. I was hooked from that point, I loved the feel of the fabric and the movement of the needle and thread.
