MARCEL KITTEL BACK TO HIS BEST
With two sprint stages and the pink jersey of race leader as the Giro d’Italia made its way home to Italy from the Netherlands on Monday, Marcel Kittel (Etixx-Quick Step) shouted it loud and clear: the big German sprinter is back to his very best. Kittel, who turned 28 on Wednesday, made a mockery of his opponents on the 190km pan-flat road stages two and three in the Dutch Grande Partenza around Nijmegen and Arnhem. Despite the presence of touted rival Caleb Ewan (Orica-GreenEdge), Kittel’s advantage of several bike lengths on both occasions allowed him to sit up and raise his giant arms in the air with time to spare.
