DANZA&DANZA International  |  September/October
This issue has a slightly different cover story, dedicated to Reggio Emilia, Italy’s “Dance City”. We discover it through the history of its theatres, its festivals, events, the Aterballetto company – premiering three shows this September – and the NID, the platform for Italian contemporary dance
held in the city in October.
Coinciding with the presentation of her “Fúria” at Romaeuropa Festival, Rome, and on tour in Europe, we wanted to get to know a remarkable artist: the Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues, whose art is bound up with her civil and social commitment. She talks about her mission to help young peoplet hrough art in the favela de Maré in San Paulo, as well as her own projects and the political situation in Brazil. We also met the Belgian artist Lisbeth Gruwez, formerly a renowned performer with Jan Fabre, now a choreographer and promoter of a ‘female dance’, who is bringing two works to Torinodanza Festival, Turin. From Hamburg, Anna Laudere and Edvin Revazov, Principal dancers with Neumeier’s Hamburg Ballet, tell us how they met and what brought them together off stage. Our critics have also been travelling around Italy and the world to review the main premieres, recommend books and DVDs as well as technical products to wear for everyday dance practice.
