MONTREAL-BASED AIR Transat has announced that it will launch its first service to Africa when it begins nonstop flights from Montreal/Trudeau International Airport to Marrakech, Morocco, from June 12, 2024. Air Transat president and CEO Annick Guérard said the announcement marked a “milestone in the evolution of our company."
The year-round route will make the airline the only North American carrier to offer non-stop flights to the North African city. The connection will operate twice weekly initially, dropping to weekly during the winter season from October 25, 2024, until April 20, 2025. It will be flown by one of the company's 14-strong fleet of 199-seat Airbus A321LRs with a range of around 4,000nm.
The latest announcement forms part of the Canadian leisure airline's summer 2024 expansion. It plans to operate more than 180 weekly flights from Montreal to almost 40 destinations, as well as 110 flights from Toronto serving over 25 destinations, including a new route to Glasgow from May 2024.
