Beefeater, Military Medal winner and prisoner of war – Sgt Francis Mason had quite a career in the forces.
His Second World War honours and others are estimated at £1000-1500 in the Charterhouse sale on March 17. Mason, who had served in India in The Royal Artillery, was taken as a POW during the war. In 1951 he enrolled as a Yeoman Warder of Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress The Tower of London – aka the famous Beefeaters – a position he held until 1972.
