“Winter Olympia falls at a time of year when it isn’t competing with 1001 other fairs and provides a good opportunity for pre-Christmas shopping,” says James Manning of Manning Fine Art.
“The quality of stock of the various dealers is high and the discernment and knowledge of buyers is such that the fair is a good place to launch a catalogue.”
He is taking the opportunity to do just that, with an exhibition of 37 works by British graphic artist and illustrator Clifford Ellis (1907-85). Among his best-known creations, often completed with wife Rosemary Ellis (1910-98), is a series of London Transport posters from the 1930s, as well as others created for Shell, The Empire Marketing Board and the General Post Office.
