In this 1917 Revolution centenary year, Soviet art assumes extra prominence at this season’s Russian series, writes Roland Arkell.
This large Soviet porcelain platter (or one identical to it) shown right was used to advertise the Exhibition of Soviet Porcelain marking the 10th anniversary of the Revolution in 1927.
Painted by Zinaida Kobyletskaya after the design by Sergei Chekhonin, it carries the message Workers of the World, Unite. At Sotheby’s sale of Russian works of art – one of three catalogues offered on November 28 – it is estimated at £20,000-30,000.
