Mallams in Oxford posted a house record for jewellery on November 15 when a pair of Cartier earrings sold to one of 12 international phone bidders for £72,000 (plus premium).
With a total diamond weight of around eight carats, they comprise hoops and bombe clusters of brilliant and baguette-cut stones (signed Cartier London) and detachable articulated pendant drops (unsigned). The estimate was £6000-8000.
Specialist Louise Dennis told ATG the result of the sale “reflects how buoyant the current market is for period jewellery of beautiful design and quality that is fresh to the auction sphere”.
