A collection of more than 500 microscope specimen slides, mostly dating to the 19th century, will go under the hammer on July 12 at Toovey’s in Washington, West Sussex.
The slides are contained within 21 sliding drawers of a 17in (43cm) high Victorian mahogany slide cabinet, and cover biological, zoological, botanical, entomological and geological interests. The majority include paper labels for English optical instrument makers such as W Watson & Sons and Clarke & Page.
