The set of 12 plates from the famous Sèvres Marly Rouge service which led Bonhams’ July 5 European ceramics sale at £65,000, plus a close-up of one plate below left.
Bonhams’ (25/20/12% buyer’s premium) main summer sale of European ceramics took place at its Bond Street rooms on July 5. On offer were 245 lots which raised a hammer total of just under £600,000, with a 62% take-up.
Meissen and Sèvres were the dominant factories here, the former accounting for almost half the sale content, although it was the latter that produced the day’s highest price.
