Andrew Newell Wyeth (1917-2009), one of America’s best-known artists of the mid-20th century, focused on provincial landscapes and the people in them.
This watercolour on paper, The Clammer, dates from c.1942 and measures 11½ x 15½in (29 x 39.5cm). It featured in Hindman’s live and online American and European Art sale in Chicago on May 23.
