Shown left is one of the 96 woodcuts produced by Michel Wohlgemuth and Wilhelm Playdenworff for the 1491 edition of Stephan Fridolin’s Der Schatzbehalter oder schrein der waren reichtümer des heils unnd ewyger seligkeit issued by Anton Koberger of Nürnberg.
It is lacking two blanks but is otherwise a complete example in full contemporary colour (and 17th century vellum) of one of the most attractive books of the late 15th century. This work will be sold by Hartung & Hartung of Munich on November 5.
